![]() DLC sometimes feels like a nostalgic throwback to the Internet of 90s, I really enjoyed that aspect too. Music and visuals are calming and peaceful. I could advance on them, but Id like to go back to the basement, since I just completed doors 1, 2 and 3. But then I collected enough sigls to enter the elevator and now Im on floor zero, I guess. Some optional puzzles are impossible to solve by yourself, but I don't think that should stop you from playing in our Internet age. White-boards are used for small hints, like 'Try to make it as high as possible'. Hello, I was doing those initial puzzles in the basement, where there were numbered doors. There are only a few tools at your disposal, but the puzzle designers really got everything possible out of these few tools, in the ways I couldn't imagine. Puzzle The Talos Principle 2 The Talos Principle 2 is coming this year By Andy Chalk published The long-awaited sequel to Croteam's hit puzzle game made a surprise. Oh, by the way, the puzzles are great too. However, the game lead me to some answers for myself. A lot of questions are raised here, with not many answers (what did you expect?). Often I don't have patience to read philosophical texts, but here it just works - you read a little, go solve a puzzle, and think about what you just read in the meantime. ![]() I don't know how they did this, but that existential lore seems to be perfectly curated and broken up into digestible chunks. ![]() It's just like in the real world - we run around doing chores / making money / achieving goals that have nothing to do with who we are or what our purpose is but that's just how our life is. At first glance, this seems like a weird combination, but it all starts to make sense and fit together after a while. In this game, you are running around solving puzzles and reading a lot of lore about existential philosophy. ![]() if either of the above is not true, you must avoid it (the game has a potential to trigger an existential crisis, and the gameplay is nothing but puzzles). if you ever had an existential crisis AND if you like puzzles, you absolutely must play it. There is a very simple way to determine whether you should play this game: Having said that, it's definitely not for everyone. This game is now one of my favorites (if not THE favorite). ![]()

![]() ![]() But when there’s no scale there to remove, that will only cause etching, it won’t fix the problem and will shorten the life of the plaster. Once you make that misdiagnosis, it’s then easy to mistakenly assume an acid wash is the best remedy. Because changes in color resulting from these defects are also a lighter or whitish color, it is easy to mistakenly believe that the problem is calcium scaling, and that the pool water has been out-of-balance. It is also common to lighten colored plaster surfaces because of mistakes in material selections, placement, finishing and/or curing. As is widely known, scale makes the surface turn white, and acid washing is often the remedy.Ī classic example of whitening due to porosity, which manifests as light streaks, spots and patches. This is not new information and professionals in the pool industry are very familiar, or at least they should be, with these failures in maintenance and the resultant deposits or surface roughness. First off, it is possible to scale or etch pigmented plaster surfaces with water that is out of balance. The good news is a dose of basic information goes along way in figuring out how to avoid the problem in the first place and remedy it when it does occur.Ĭolors fade for a handful of preventable reasons. Later on, it must also be disappointing, if not more so, to learn that the cause of the unsightly problem was misdiagnosed, and worse, the remedial action taken to resolve that problem caused even more serious damage. Unfortunately, as we all know, that’s not always the case – colors do sometimes fade.īecause the interior pool surface is such a dominating visual element, it must be disappointing for everyone involved on those occasions when they watch their pigmented, colored pools become unsightly with whitish blotches, streaks, or small spots. In turn, builders, remodelers, and plasterers are motivated to provide colorfast surfaces that endure the dynamic swimming pool environment. With that investment in aesthetics, consumers rightfully expect the attractive appearance they’ve paid for to last a long time. That’s why pool owners are willing to pay extra to have that special color enhance their water andby extension the entire backyard. The color adds ambiance to the setting and can make the water wonderfully attractive and inviting. Having a beautiful pool with a colored surface, especially one with a quartz or pebble plaster finish, is a popular choice among pool owners, and understandably so. ![]() ![]() Peptide bond formation is also slow between an incoming tRNA and a chain ending in proline with the creation of proline-proline bonds slowest of all. Peptide bond formation with incoming Pro-tRNA Pro in the ribosome is considerably slower than with any other tRNAs, which is a general feature of N-alkylamino acids. When proline is bound as an amide in a peptide bond, its nitrogen is not bound to any hydrogen, meaning it cannot act as a hydrogen bond donor, but can be a hydrogen bond acceptor. It also affects the rate of peptide bond formation between proline and other amino acids. The distinctive cyclic structure of proline's side chain gives proline an exceptional conformational rigidity compared to other amino acids. Results were significant in the other organisms. Ī diet rich in proline was linked to an increased risk of depression in humans in a study from 2022 that was tested on a limited pre-clinical trial on humans and primarily in other organisms. In plants, proline accumulation is a common physiological response to various stresses but is also part of the developmental program in generative tissues (e.g. It has been proposed to be a potential endogenous excitotoxin. L-Proline has been found to act as a weak agonist of the glycine receptor and of both NMDA and non-NMDA ( AMPA/ kainate) ionotropic glutamate receptors. Zwitterionic structure of both proline enantiomers: ( S)-proline (left) and ( R)-proline Biological activity This can then either spontaneously cyclize to form 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid, which is reduced to proline by pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase (using NADH or NADPH), or turned into ornithine by ornithine aminotransferase, followed by cyclisation by ornithine cyclodeaminase to form proline. ![]() Glutamate-5-semialdehyde is first formed by glutamate 5-kinase (ATP-dependent) and glutamate-5-semialdehyde dehydrogenase (which requires NADH or NADPH). Proline is biosynthetically derived from the amino acid L- glutamate. The name proline comes from pyrrolidine, one of its constituents. The next year, Emil Fischer isolated proline from casein and the decomposition products of γ-phthalimido-propylmalonic ester, and published the synthesis of proline from phthalimide propylmalonic ester. Proline was first isolated in 1900 by Richard Willstätter who obtained the amino acid while studying N-methylproline, and synthesized proline by the reaction of sodium salt of diethyl malonate with 1,3-dibromopropane. Proline is the only proteinogenic secondary amino acid which is a secondary amine, as the nitrogen atom is attached both to the α-carbon and to a chain of three carbons that together form a five-membered ring. It is encoded by all the codons starting with CC (CCU, CCC, CCA, and CCG). It is non-essential in humans, meaning the body can synthesize it from the non-essential amino acid L- glutamate. The "side chain" from the α carbon connects to the nitrogen forming a pyrrolidine loop, classifying it as a aliphatic amino acid. The secondary amine nitrogen is in the protonated form (NH 2 +) under biological conditions, while the carboxyl group is in the deprotonated −COO − form. Proline (symbol Pro or P) is an organic acid classed as a proteinogenic amino acid (used in the biosynthesis of proteins), although it does not contain the amino group -NHĢ but is rather a secondary amine. ![]() ![]() Maple trees typically have leaves with pointed lobes and noticeable deep indentations between them. To accurately identify maple trees, focus on their distinguishing characteristics such as leaves, bark, and fruit. Also, some maple tree species have smoother bark than others. Maple tree bark turns a dark brown color as the tree matures. sycamore leavesĪ close up picture of mature maple tree bark The foliage of certain maple species can have multiple colors simultaneously, ranging from vibrant yellow to rich red wine shades. Maple tree leaves undergo a remarkable transformation in the fall, displaying stunning hues of red, yellow, orange, and dark burgundy. In addition, red maple leaves differ from sugar maples with their serrated margins and less pronounced depth of indentation between the lobes. The sugar maple leaves exhibit U-shaped indentations between the lobes, while red maple leaves display shallow V-shaped indentations. These distinctions in leaf characteristics allow for differentiation between the two species. However, when comparing sugar maples to silver maples, you’ll observe that silver maple leaves have deeper indentations compared to sugar maple leaves. The number of lobes, the serration of the leaf margins, the depth of indentations, and the overall leaf shape all play a role in identifying specific maple species.įor instance, the sugar maple leaf is known for its five serrated lobes. These broad leaves also display prominent veins, with many of them featuring serrated lobes. Maple tree leaves are characterized by their lobed structure, typically having between three and nine lobes. Maple leaf shape is the prominent way to help identify the type of maple tree The maple leaves are said to symbolize strength and endurance. A single stylized maple leaf with 11 points and deep indentations features prominently in the Canadian flag. The striking maple leaf-especially from the sugar maple tree-is undoubtedly the tree’s most recognizable feature. The unique and decorative wood grain of maple makes it a popular choice for creating exquisite furniture pieces. Maple wood, a hardwood variety, is utilized in crafting baseball bats, bowling pins, pool cue shafts, and hardwood flooring. In addition to their culinary value, maple trees are prized for their quality timber. While syrup can be made from any maple tree, it is the sugar maple tree (Acer saccharum) that yields the highest-quality syrup. Maple trees are renowned for producing the famous sweet maple syrup, extracted from the sap. Other popular varieties of maple trees for gardens are the Amur Maple ( Acer ginnala), Big Leaf Maple ( Acer macrophyllum), and the Hedge Maple tree ( Acer campestre). The two most common maples are the sugar maple ( Acer saccharum) and the red maple ( Acer rubrum). There are about 128 species of maple trees in the Acer plant genus. We should, however, mention that settling the lever into place requires a fair amount of force. The attachment storage case is a major plus in practice and goes some way towards explaining the higher price, as does the easier assembly procedure. Due to this model’s sealed bowl, its lower total capacity is actually not all that significant. The Hamilton Beach 70820 in a NutshellĪlthough it’s similar in many ways to the aforementioned 70730 from the same manufacturer, this Hamilton Beach is somewhat easier to use and with more processing options. Instead, it seems more like as if as many features as possible were crammed into the smallest, cheapest package possible. Still, this is definitely not a true premium product. The plastic bowl will crack when dropped, but manufacturing quality in general is better than that of many entry-level food processors. The machine will stall if you overload it, though, potentially damaging the motor. Though we wouldn’t describe the motor as overpowered, it can mince (pre-cubed) meats or help you prepare bread or pizza using the dough kneading attachment. Another problem the Hamilton Beach 70730 has which this model overcomes is that you can process liquids without fear, as the central column is much more watertight. Mess is generally not a problem, as the bowl seals at the top and has a pour spout. Useful pictures on the casing remind you to use the Low setting when using a disc and the High for the blade, though of course you’re free to deviate from this once you’ve figured things out for yourself. This food processor is equipped with large, paddle-style switches you can easily flip when your hands are dirty and wipe down afterwards. The accessory box is not quite so simple and demands a little Tetris to store all the attachments in their proper places. When it comes to assembling the machine before use, all the parts more or less fall into place on their own and you only need to snap the handle into place. The bowl and attachments can all be placed in the dishwasher. If, for example, you want to make coleslaw with finely grated carrots and somewhat more substantial cabbage ribbons, you only have to reverse it. The two-sided shredding blade, for its part, can produce both thicker and finer strips. This means that thinner ingredients lie at an angle as they become shorter, turning your zucchini circles into ovals. Unfortunately and unlike with the Cuisinart DFP-14, there is no insert to narrow the wide feed tube. 6mm cucumber slices would work in some salads, but you can also go much thinner for potato gratin. You need only twist it to get slices of the perfect consistency. If presentation and texture are important to you, you’ll love the adjustable slicing blade which can produce cuts of between 1mm to 6mm ( 1/ 32 to ¼ inches) thick. When assembled, it measures 16 by 10½ by 14½ inches. The machine itself can actually sit on top of storage case when not in use, reducing the amount of space it occupies. Of course, it also prevents you from nicking a finger on a razor-sharp S-blade while rummaging around for something else. ![]() This built-in spatula shares some of the same drawbacks as that of the 70730 and doesn’t always cause sticky foods to fall back into the bowl, but seems a little more robust.Īnother feature, which more manufacturers should really consider offering, is the included plastic storage case for the various attachments, which are prone to wandering off on their own especially when you move house. This scraper can be operated while the machine is running (though you have to remove it when using anything other than the S-shaped chopping blade). Some Very Cool Features at a Bargain PriceĪs mentioned, this food processor includes a bowl scraper you can turn by twisting the black lever on top of the machine, so you don’t need to use a spatula when pureeing or finely chopping ingredients. In addition, the motor will be locked out when the arm is not in place, just like on any other good food processor you’d allow into a family kitchen. This Hamilton Beach product does at least come with a 1-year warranty, and the bowl is replaceable. Still, we can’t help but wonder how long the two plastic lips over which the metal retaining part fits will last under all that vibration. This will certainly appeal to those of us who’ve owned a food processor with a fiddly, slightly warped lid. Instead, this “Stack & Snap” machine uses a metal latch (which doubles as a carry handle) to lock the bowl and lid onto the motor. The Hamilton Beach 70820 sacrifices some bowl space in comparison to the 70730, but retains the handy side wipers and features a unique and innovative design which eliminates a frustration common in food processors: having to twist, jiggle and finally thump all the fittings into place. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you do it will be very damaging to you and is far more likely to result in you having to use up a life.
