![]() When an officer arrived at a Mechanic Street apartment on April 8, he was told by the mother of Calvin Freeman, 35, of Mechanic Street, that he and his girlfriend were drunk and being aggressive towards her, which was when she told him that she no longer wanted him and his girlfriend to live with her, the officer reported.Īs soon as the victim told Freeman he had to go, he began to threaten her saying he was going to kill her and then he grabbed her by the throat with his left hand and pushed her head into a wall and as he was squeezing her throat - for about 30 seconds - he punched her in the face at least three time while repeating he was going to kill her, the officer reported.įreeman let her go for a moment and then put her in a headlock with his right arm, before the victim was able to break free and run to a neighbor’s apartment for help, the officer reported.įreeman fled and officers couldn’t immediately locate him but issued a summons for him to appear in court last week on a charge for assault and battery and strangulation or suffocation, the officer reported. She got away momentarily in an attempt to unlock the door and Covington then grabbed her again by her neck and pushed her into a bedroom, which was when the victim’s friends attempted to intervene before calling 911 for help, the officer reported, noting the victim was shaken up and crying. The woman told the officer that after leaving a few friends in a different apartment at the Main Street address, that when she opened the door to her apartment Covington immediately locked the door, pushed her and then grabbed her by the neck with his left hand and choked her for about 20 seconds, the officer reported. When an officer arrived he spoke with the victim about what occurred that resulted in someone calling police for help, the reporting officer said.
